Nantucket Nectars from the beginning

Nantucket Nectars from the beginning

Tom and Tom met as freshmen at Brown University in the fall of 1985. When they graduated from Brown, they knew they did not want to live the jacket and tie life of the corporate world. Instead, they moved to Nantucket determined to make it on their own.

In the summer of 1989, Tom and Tom created Allserve, a boat business that serviced visiting yachts in the Nantucket Harbor. In their distinctive red boat, they went from boat to boat delivering newspapers, coffee, laundry and other necessities not easily accessible to visiting boatsmen. As demand for their services grew, they opened the Allserve General Store, which remains in operation today and is located at its original site on Straight Wharf on Nantucket. Luckily, they survived their first round in the business world relatively unscathed, but with the onset of the ferocious Nantucket winters, they discovered that simply making ends meet was more difficult. During their first winter on Nantucket, they created Nantucket Nectars.

One night, Tom and Tom started mixing fruits in a blender. They first made a peach juice based on Tom First's memory of a peach nectar he had tasted during his travels in Spain. They bought all sorts of fruits from their local grocery store and came up with some concoctions that are probably better left forgotten. But, they did hit upon some great flavors. Their entrepreneurial spirits took over, and Tom and Tom began hand bottling their juice and selling it off the stern of the Allserve boat in the Nantucket Harbor.

They spent the next few years experiencing the highs and lows of being self-starters. Dedicated to being more than just a flash in the pan product, Tom and Tom continued to seek superior ingredients for their juice. They refused to sacrifice the quality of their ingredients, but the cost of quality resulted in long periods of financial struggle, which forced them to take all sorts of odd jobs such as shucking scallops and shampooing dogs.

Tom and Tom ventured beyond their original island boundaries in 1991. At this time, they were not only juice manufacturers, but they were beverage distributors as well. They distributed Nantucket Nectars and other beverages throughout Cape Cod, Boston, and Washington, DC. Although they no longer run their own distribution company, their experience as distributors proved invaluable, for they now understand the challenges that accompany distribution. Their past experiences have made the two of them as well as the entire Nantucket Nectars team stronger and more reliable business partners. Nantucket Nectars has now established markets in over 40 states as well as the international territories of Canada, Europe, and The Caribbean.

Nantucket Nectars is doing battle in a fiercely competitive market dominated by established beverage giants. Tom and Tom are determined to create the best quality product in the juice market. They are committed to the Quality Juice Evolution Solution, which is their own set of standards that the company follows in order to guarantee that each bottle of Nantucket Nectars is the highest quality and best tasting juice in a bottle. QJES is their promise to consumers that if Nantucket Nectars can be made better, it will be made better. Nantucket Nectars still places their primary loyalties in the customer, just as Tom and Tom did in the very beginning with their boat business, Allserve. Tom and Tom are proud to say that a strong commitment to quality and personal service lies at the heart of Nantucket Nectars.

We Won't Let You Down.
